How we help

Prison law advice, covering the matters that affect prisoners most

Recategorisation & transfers

Challenging category decisions and supporting moves towards open conditions, including Category D (open prison) applications and appeals, and cases wrongly assessed against the relevant PSI.

Early release & the Progression Model

Advice on eligibility and timing under the Sentencing Act 2026 Progression Model, which replaced Home Detention Curfew: most sentences now progress towards release at the one-third point (halfway for more serious sexual or violent offences).

Adjudications & discipline

Representation on Prison Rule 51 charges, including challenges where the correct process under the Prisoner Discipline Procedures (Adjudications) Policy Framework hasn't been followed.

Sentence plans & OASys

Addressing neglected or wrongly applied sentence planning that's holding up parole, category D or resettlement.

Complaints, PPO & MoJ

Formal complaints against a prison, and escalation to the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman or Ministry of Justice where needed.

Other custody matters

Prison property, contact issues, discrimination, medical and medication matters, and foreign or vulnerable prisoner cases.

How it works

Getting advice is straightforward

Get in touch

Prisoners can write, call on an authorised phone, or text. Family and friends can call, WhatsApp or use our contact form, with the prisoner's authority to act.

We review the case

Tell us the prisoner's name, prison number and establishment, the offence and sentence, and what's happening. We'll tell you plainly whether we can help.

We act, for a fixed fee

Where we take a case on, we agree a fixed, non-refundable fee upfront, so there are no surprises, then get to work on representations, complaints or appeals.

Recent outcomes

Cases we've helped with

Category C to D reconsideration

A prisoner was refused a move from category C to D because he hadn't yet reached his ROTL date, blocking a transfer to open conditions. We challenged the decision under the correct prison law PSI. It was overturned, and he was transferred to open conditions.

Adjudication dismissed

A prisoner faced a Prison Rule 51 charge. We submitted written representations setting out procedural failures under the Prisoner Discipline Procedures (Adjudications) Policy Framework. The charge was dismissed.
